../About Piiff/Prince Ibrahima's Story

The Prince Ibrahima and Isabella Freedom Foundation is named in honor of Prince Ibrahima (Abduhl Rahaman) and Isabella Sori-Mawdho who were two important forerunners of the freedom movement for people of African descent in America. Approximately 255 years ago, Abduhl Rahahman was part of a royal family in West Africa in (what is now Guinea). At the age of 26 he was captured from home, sold as a slave and survived the transatlantic passage to America. In America the Prince met and married Isabella, a first generation American-born slave woman who was one of the first black woman ever referred to as a doctor. After forty years in bondage (1778- 1828)  Prince Ibrahima and Isabella finally won their freedom and emigrated to what is now Liberia. He died in Liberia in 1829 before being reunited with some of his children who came to Liberia in 1831.
